Our Story

“Everyone would say it’s normal to have work conflicts, just keep your head down and work hard. If I kept my head down any lower, I’d be burying it in the sand.” While debates, disagreements and the occasional stressful period may occur - ongoing, intentional and persistent abuse should not be normalised.

Our founder worked in the corporate sectors for some of the biggest international media brands and on paper everything looked good.

However, behind closed doors and non-disclosure agreements she felt stuck in a toxic workplace setting. After intensive research she understood that she wasn’t simply imagining it or being ‘too sensitive,’ this was a serious issue that had been accepted as ‘part of the job’ for generations.

Toxic workplace culture is deeply embedded in our cultural psyche that there is little, to no accountability and perhaps most concerning a lack of acknowledgement that this is not an isolated issue but a serious systemic problem.

Many organisations advocate for prevention, few address the hidden costs of recovering from toxicity (postvention) which unjustly falls on the individual.

People who experience toxic workplace culture internalise the issue as their fault and are left to pick up the pieces alone.

Until now...

Our Process

We use a ‘regenerative framework’ inspired by Christian Wahl’s model Beyond Sustainability Designing regenerative cultures, to address the root cause of toxic workplaces not just the symptoms.

We recognise the parallels between child labour, domestic violence, oppression and the profit over people mentality that enables toxicity to escalate and prevail. Currently there is a lack of qualitative and quantitative data on the impacts of abusive workplaces to the individual's health. Without clear metrics, policies and legislation there can not be accountability. Accurate and inclusive data is integral to inform substantial change.

Everyone’s story matters. By working together as a collective we can ‘cure’ toxic workplace culture.

Co-design Solutions

That’s why we co-design our services with the people first and encourage our patrons to confidentially contribute their story to our data pool. Our membership community is an affordable way to help the people who need it most address the symptoms of toxic workplace culture and protect their wellbeing, while the stories shared tackles the systemic issue.

Identifying Patterns

1) The long term impacts of workplace abuse and chronic health risks.

2) Ways to embed unique cultures into companies (not fit people into the workplace but embrace them for their unique perspective)

3) Remote work in a globalised world as an opportunity for cultural conversations.

Be Part Of The Change

Every toxic workplace story shared will contribute to a growing database of insights that can be shared anonymously with policy makers, government bodies and research institutions to inform healthier working worlds and brighter futures.

*This is optional for members who wish to be part of the change.

Our Team

Founder

Katherine founded Culture Cure after marketing for global brands such as Fox Film Studios and Warner Brothers. Her background in Media & Entertainment coincided with the ‘Me Too’ movement and she experienced the shift of a collective movement firsthand.

Her work has been featured in Forbes and published in a mindfulness book "The Art Of Being Here And Now." When she's not guest lecturing at RMIT on leadership and culture, she is advocating for women’s rights.

She believes everyone has a powerful story that can positively impact the world, and meaningful change starts with a conversation.

Community Engagement Officer

Garima Mangal moved to Melbourne, Australia from New Delhi, India in 2017 to pursue Master of International Development from RMIT University.

During the course of completing her Masters Garima was highly influenced by Paulo Freire’s explanation of ‘The Pedagogy of the Oppressed’. Which helped her discover and dissect the many ways in which oppression manifested and went unnoticed.

“As an aunt to a 3-year old woman of colour and another one on the way, I am motivated more than ever before to abolish these antiquated criteria of differentiating that keep us from celebrating diversity for the beautiful thing that it is.”

Her philanthropic work as a community engagement officer for the World Wildlife Fund is a testament to her dedication to equality for all.

“As an advocate for equality, I have struggled to locate it within the neoliberal climate of today’s world. However, Culture Cure has reinstated my belief in this process of bringing a much-required systematic change within the workforce and in the larger context.”
